Mitch Metzner is a hospice midwife and environmental epidemiologist who studies the planetary hospice risks associated with climate collapse. He completed postdoctoral studies in public health and received a PhD degree in human services from Capella University with epidemiological dissertation research conducted at the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine. Dr. Metzner has decades of experience as a behavioral psychology and clinical laboratory research scientist and public health educator working on various Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded projects. He began home hospice work during the AIDS epidemic in 1982, and gained inpatient medical hospice experience beginning with the death of his partner Chuck Lilly, III, in 1994, later serving as a volunteer and trainer for hospice volunteers and professionals with the San Diego Veterans Medical Center, West Los Angeles Veterans Medical Center, and Anam Cara, a residential social model hospice project he co-founded with his late husband, Gabriel Gelbart.
